Project details

A leading Australian and International drilling contractor approached SEAWAY with the monumental task of moving 12 pieces of drilling rig,2400cbm and 410 tonne total - not only in current global RORO(Roll-On/Roll-Off) climate with almost zero space to non OEMs, but multiple other hurdles to overcome. Panama Canal congestion, North American Winter (hazardous roads), BMSB fumigation, goods being ready over several sailings and the Baltimore bridge collapse meaning all connecting vessels were eventually delayed (to name a few!)

To avoid long-haul road travel through the US and associated challenges, we coordinated with our North American counterparts to secure the required space and a very competitive RORO price out of the Port of Tacoma in Washinton DC. This avoided the need for super load permits (approx. 2 weeks application time) and then travel time of 4 weeks down to Baltimore or Brunswick. Not to mention the risk of traversing those roads in Winter.

Along with fumigation and wash services for the equipment at the Port of Tacoma before departure, we worked diligently to have all required import documentation in order to ensure the smoothest possible Customs and Quarantine clearance, including writing a new TCO for one of the trailers.

This was far from a smooth ride but in the end after many hours of work and liaising with many different parties all loads were successfully moved via Tacoma and on budget.
